A 2019 Buick Encore. This is actually the second Encore I've driven, and hoo boy is it not any better the second time around.

In all seriousness, although I have never liked the look of the Encore, it is labeled as  a Buick. Therefore I expect it to be comfortable, fairly quiet, easy to drive, and reasonably nice in the cabin. Accurate?

Not that I’ve noticed. I drove the thing for an hour and I can’t tell you anything for sure. It exists as a vague memory, like a commute you take every day, or when you wake up on a beach after a bender.

That brings up the dangers of making rental car versions of what are supposed to be upscale brands. There should be no stripper Buicks. It’s GMs fault for even making this car and diluting their name plate. If you’re going to make a Buick version of a Chevy, it should only ever be found as a well-optioned, premium-feeling trim.

If all you want is a generic crossover, they’re great. For a car enthusiast, they’re hell on earth.

For reference, one of my friends bought one lightly used. For what she wanted, it’s great. Fairly new, good features, cheap, and under warranty. In no way a fun or exciting car at all, but good at it’s designed purpose.
